ML Bootcamps

CBAI hosted two parallel two-week Winter ML Bootcamps (WMLBs) in partnership with the Harvard AI Safety Team and MIT AI Alignment from January 9-20, 2023. We think bootcamps are among the best ways to quickly get up to speed in deep learning and develop skills useful for conducting AI safety research, and we are exploring running similar programs in the future. If you are interested, please fill out this interest form.

The bootcamps are in-person, with teaching assistants experienced with ML and AI safety research. We follow the highly-rated MLAB (Machine Learning for Alignment) curriculum designed by Redwood Research, which provides a thorough, hands-on introduction to state-of-the-art ML techniques (e.g. transformers, deep RL, mechanistic interpretability) and is meant to get you to the level of replicating ML papers in PyTorch. The program’s only prerequisites are comfort with Python and introductory linear algebra.

We will likely host similar bootcamps in the future (possible dates include summer 2024 and January 2025).
